 | Red-Hot Pitcher Chills Out on Award Thursday, August 1st , 1963 Kakuya Izumi of the Osaka Sailors was good, solid and consistent on the mound this month. He fashioned a fine 2-2 won-lost mark and 2.90 ERA in 6 starts to get the Western League Rookie of the Month honors. Izumi had a very impressive July, finishing with 17 strikeouts in 40.1 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .247 average. To date this year, in 10 starts, Izumi has crafted a 6-2 mark with a 1.90 ERA. |   |
