 | Super Swinger -- Allen Slams 5 Hits Saturday, August 5th , 1916 It was a big day for Archie Allen and he brought the Scranton Black Diamonds along for the ride. Allen led his club to victory, 12-3, over the Reading Ironmasters at Lackawanna Grounds, smoking Reading pitching for 5 hits in 6 at-bats. The 37-year-old first baseman later called the victory "sweet." Archie Allen singled in the 1st, hit a two-run single in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Ralph Hund in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and flied out in the 8th. Thus far this year, Allen has hit .332 with 2 home runs and 48 RBIs. |   |
