The future looks extremely bright for Teruhi Hirai. At the age of 26, many players are still trying to find their way in Baseball Association of Nippon.

Hirai has not only found his way, he's already established himself as one of the game's brightest stars, today being named the winner of the Western League Most Valuable Player Award.

"I didn't expect to hit .315 this year, that's for sure," the center fielder said.

The Nagasaki Stars star also put up a .412 on-base percentage this year, with 158 hits, 22 doubles, 7 triples, 21 home runs, 91 RBIs and 71 runs scored.

He received 12 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Nobu Ishihara of the Fukuoka Falcons finished second in voting, while Yasukatsu Arakawa of the Nagasaki Stars finished third.
