"Shihei was just locating so well and using his pitches," Hosho manager Shun Kawamura said later. "He wasn't leaving anything over the plate." Saito recorded 1 strikeout and no walks in a strong outing. "When he needed to make pitches, he elevated his game," Rakisuta manager Kinzo Yoshimura said in postgame comments to BNN. "We couldn't get a key hit off him." This year, Saito has fashioned a 15-8 mark, 2.95 ERA and pitched 204.2 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .227 against him and he has logged 96 strikeouts.
