| Fukuoka Goes Scoreless Against Matsumoto, Sailors Sunday, July 20th , 1975 Genpaku Matsumoto of the Osaka Sailors was on top of his game.
The 21-year-old tantalized the Fukuoka Falcons with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 5-0.
"He had the changeup working," Fukuoka manager Kamlyn Kadota said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Osaka hurler had 4 strikeouts, gave up 3 walks and surrendered 7 hits in his complete-game effort.
Matsumoto told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
This year, Matsumoto has compiled a 3-6 mark with a 3.66 ERA.
