| Yamazaki Calls it a Day in Fukuoka Tuesday, August 14th , 1962 Fukuoka Falcons officials flanked Norito Yamazaki as he announced his retirement from pro baseball today. Rumors have had him on the verge of retirement since late last week but were not confirmed until today.
"I want to leave the game the way I came into it," said Yamazaki. "I don't want to become an embarrassment to myself and the team."
In his career, Yamazaki has fanned 1066 batters and walked 539 in 1855.2 innings of work. His lifetime won-lost record is 112 victories and 90 defeats with a 3.48 ERA and opposing hitters have compiled a .247 batting average against him. | | |
