He has played in 13 games. | | 5 Hits for Dusters Conklin Friday, September 13th , 1963 A jubilant Jack Conklin joined the postgame press conference at Davenport Park to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Peoria Pastimers pitching staff he had just vanquished.
"It may not have looked like it," said the Davenport Dusters third baseman, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different."
That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-5 hitting performance, which led to the 8-6 Dusters win.
"He made it look easy," said Andy Wilber, manager of the Pastimers. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously."
Jack Conklin singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and hit a three-run home run off Gilberto Castañeda in the 8th.
To date this year, Conklin is batting .281 with 4 home runs.
