| GWL Awards Best Batter Prize to Griffith Monday, July 18th , 1949 In the twilight of his career, 37-year-old Bennie Griffith of Los Angeles recaptured some of the old magic last week and came away with the Great Western League Player of the Week Award.
"I've been playing since I was a kid," Griffith told reporters, "but you're never too old to feel the thrill of success."
Griffith outpaced the rest of the league's hitters last week, reeling off 11 hits in 24 at-bats, 2 home runs, and 7 RBIs to stake his claim to the award.
To date this season Griffith is hitting .352 with 21 home runs. | | |
