| 5-Hit Blitz by Pittsburgh's Schmitt Wednesday, May 9th , 1962 Pittsburgh right fielder Gale Schmitt had a day to remember, 5-for-5 against the Los Angeles Suns at Fitzpatrick Park as the Miners picked up a win, 9-0.
"He was patient up there," Pittsburgh skipper Harry Barrell told the press after the game. "I like the way he waited for his pitch and wasn't overly aggressive. Schmitt has a tendency to chase bad balls sometimes."
Gale Schmitt singled in the 1st, hit a two-run double in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th and doubled in the 8th.
To date Schmitt has chalked up a .417 average with 2 home runs, driven in 7 runs and scored 7 times.
