New York Stymied by Guthrie Wednesday, September 18th , 1974 Buck Guthrie dominated the New York Gothams with a brilliant 5-hit shutout in the 1-0 Baltimore Clippers triumph at Patapsco Field. The Baltimore hurler fanned 3 and walked 2 in the game and was singled out for praise afterward by the opposing manager.
"He really kept us in check today," Gothams skipper Charlie Foley said in postgame comments. "Everything looked to be moving. Seemed like the pitch was right down the middle and it went over down and away. We took some pathetic swings."
This year, Guthrie has a 8-6 record with a 3.44 ERA.
