| Los Angeles Blanks Wolves, Conrad at His Best Saturday, August 10th , 1974 The Toronto Wolves were almost helpless in their 2-0 loss to the Los Angeles Stars and hurler Vean Conrad. Conrad kept the Wolves confused all game, spinning a 1-hit shutout.
"Tip your hat to Conrad," Toronto manager Carl Evans said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."
The 32-year-old right-hander had 4 walks and 9 strikeouts in a strong performance.
"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Conrad said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
Checking out his stats for the season, Conrad has racked up 11 wins and 8 losses in 24 starts, posted a 3.30 ERA, and struck out 91 batters in 160.2 innings.
