| Chicago Blanks Cannons, Champ at His Best Friday, August 16th , 1963 Today was Dick Champ's turn in the rotation for the Chicago Cougars and he made the most of it, shutting out the Cincinnati Cannons on 6 hits.
The 32-year-old right-hander led the Cougars to an easy 7-0 victory, allowing no walks and tallying 6 strikeouts.
"I hope we miss him next time," Cincinnati manager Hal Upton said. "Champ certainly pitched a strong game against us today. He was in a groove, throwing everything for strikes. Throwing hard. Changing speeds."
This year, Champ has worked 144.1 innings with 83 strikeouts en route to a 8-10 record and a 4.18 ERA.
