| 6-Hit Game for Murphy Wednesday, July 17th , 1963 Philadelphia second baseman Bob G. Murphy went down swinging at Broad Street Park II, knocking out 6 hits even as his Keystones fell, 4-2.
"It was like I was hitting Little League pitching," Murphy said after his 6-for-6 performance against the Los Angeles Suns. "No offense meant to Los Angeles, but it was like I was back in little league again -- I could see the ball that well."
After the game, his manager elaborated on the second baseman's improvements, saying Murphy spent the offseason trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball.
"That's what I'm trying to do," Murphy agreed. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."
Bob G. Murphy singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th, singled in the 10th and singled in the 12th.
For the season, Murphy is currently batting .287 with 10 home runs and 49 RBIs. In 83 games he has reached base at a .341 rate and scored 42 runs to date.
