| Norris Skunks Pittsburgh, 4-0 Saturday, May 25th , 1963 Jim Norris of the Detroit Dynamos was on top of his game.
The 33-year-old tantalized the Pittsburgh Miners with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 4-0.
"He had the changeup working," Pittsburgh manager Harry Barrell said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Detroit hurler had 3 strikeouts, gave up 3 walks and surrendered 5 hits in his complete-game effort.
Norris told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
So far this year, Norris has compiled a 6-2 record with a 3.52 ERA.
