| Jones Holds Baltimore Scoreless Sunday, August 17th , 1975 Joe Jones of the Detroit Dynamos was on top of his game.
The 28-year-old tantalized the Baltimore Clippers with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 4-0.
"He had the changeup working," Baltimore manager Hank Luckenbaugh said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Detroit hurler had 5 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 5 hits in his complete-game effort.
Jones told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
In 4 relief appearances this season, Jones has 3 saves. He has 13 wins and 6 losses, 3.55 ERA and 94 strikeouts in 157 innings.
