| Savage Slams 5 Hits for Toronto Monday, October 1st , 1962 The Toronto Wolves stopped the Cincinnati Cannons by a score of 5-4 at Dominion Stadium, with the lion's share of the credit going to right fielder Ed Savage. The 25-year-old had a career day, collecting 5 hits.
"Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate," Savage said later. "He wants to hit the ball hard."
Savage did just that in his 5 at-bats, much to the chagrin of the Cannons.
"Not much that I can say," offered Cincinnati manager Buddy Baumgart. "He just hammered the heck out of us."
Ed Savage singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Hal Miller in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
For the season, Savage is batting .425 with 51 hits and 9 home runs. He has scored 36 times and batted in 30.
