| Smith Shuts Out St. Louis Friday, September 21st , 1962 Bill Smith hurled a fine game for the Minneapolis Millers at Pioneer Field III, holding the St. Louis Pioneers to 7 hits in a shutout win.
"When he started out, his command wasn't that good, but he's a tough guy," Minneapolis manager Frank Vance said. "The more pitches he throws, the better his command is."
The right-hander had 7 strikeouts and 4 walks in the 3-0 victory.
"An outstanding job," St. Louis manager Lou Ormsby said. "We couldn't get anything going. Every time we got a hit, he got out of the jam. He pitched a terrific game."
