 | Hackberry Bangs Out 5 Base Hits Saturday, September 8th , 1962 A jubilant Edwin Hackberry joined the postgame press conference at Dominion Stadium to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Toronto Wolves pitching staff he had just vanquished. "It may not have looked like it," said the San Francisco Sailors right fielder, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different." That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-5 hitting performance, which led to the 14-10 Sailors win. "He made it look easy," said Randy Hohlt, manager of the Wolves. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously." Edwin Hackberry hit a two-run home run off Lee Loeffler in the 1st, walked in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, hit a GRAND SLAM off Lee Loeffler in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit a two-run home run off Fred Clark in the 9th.
