Eagles Beat Millers, 6-1 | Pitcher Owen Lantz was sensational for the Washington Eagles in his team's 6-1 triumph over the Minneapolis Millers. Lantz picked up the win, and it was well-earned. Lantz, now 6-2, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 4, walking 6, and allowing 1 run. Minneapolis has now lost 4 consecutive games.
Chief Lewis had a big 2-run double for the Eagles in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Washington leading 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a changeup from 30-year old right-handed pitcher Joe McDowell and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 12th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Eagles ahead, 4-1.
"We need better swings, better at-bats," said losing manager Frank Vance. | |
