| Copperheads Rebuff Gothams, 4-3 | Howie Burt, who finished 5th in the FA in ERA with 2.67 last year, had a strong outing for the Atlanta Copperheads against the New York Gothams at Peachtree Stadium. The left-hander was a big part of his team's 4-3 win. Buddy Thomas recorded the save. In save chances, he's now 29 for 34. The Copperheads, at 109-50, have a comfortable 33-game lead in their division.
Atlanta second baseman Al Hubbard contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a 2-run single. It was his 171st hit of the season and put the Copperheads ahead, 4-1.
"We had a good game plan," Burt said, "and we were able to execute it." | |
