| Love Helps New York Cruise to 12-3 Win | The New York Imperials easily defeated the Montreal Saints, 12-3, at Dyckman Stadium, with third baseman George Love a main contributor to the win. He went 4 for 5 with 2 triples and 2 singles. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3 for New York. Don Bradner went 7 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits. The right-hander struck out 5 and walked 2. With the win, he's now 9-9 this season. The first-place Imperials have a one-game lead in their division.
Dick White had a big bases-clearing double for the Imperials in the bottom of the first inning. With New York leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Bill McCarty, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1971 draft, and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Imperials ahead, 4-0.
"Nice to score a bunch of runs," said White after the game. | |
