| Comets Spill Pioneers, 6-4 | The Houston Comets racked up a win at Pioneer Field III, bumping off the St. Louis Pioneers, 6-4. Joe McCarthy, who started for Houston, pitched effectively for his team. The winner was McCarthy. He threw 8.2 innings of 7-hit ball. The loser was John Green. The Comets sit in second place in the Federal Association West with a record of 80-73.
Houston used a well-timed hit by Del Goodell to capture the win. The right fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Comets ahead, 3-0. Though it was his only hit in 5 at-bats, it was important.
"Got a lot of swings and misses today," said McCarthy.
