| Minutemen Beaten By Gothams, 7-4 | The New York Gothams racked up a win at Gotham Stadium, bumping off the Boston Minutemen, 7-4. Joe Nelson, who started for New York, pitched effectively for his team. Nelson, the winner, moves to 11-14. He threw 7.2 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 8 and giving up 4 walks. George Libby got the save, his 20th in 25 chances.
Barney Knox had a big 2-run double for the Gothams in the bottom of the second inning. With New York leading 3-1 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he got a fastball from Bob Scott, who is tied for 10th in the FA with a 6.2 K/9 rate, and swatted a double to left. It was his 6th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Gothams ahead, 5-1.
"Joe had good arm action, good stuff," said New York manager Charlie Foley.
The setback makes Boston 55-94. | |
