| Copperheads Score Late, Stun Gothams, 4-3 | The Atlanta Copperheads picked up a win at Gotham Stadium, knocking off the New York Gothams, 4-3. Starting pitcher Dutch Wright was a big reason why. Atlanta reliever Bill Hunn picked up the win, upping his record to 11-3. Jim Walton was saddled with the loss. The first-place Copperheads have their sights set on making a deep playoff run.
Howard Smith, who is a three-time Diamond Defense Award winner, had a direct impact on the outcome. Smith contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the ninth inning to put Atlanta up, 4-3.
"I felt great. Had good rhythm with my mechanics," said Wright. | |
