| Atlanta Falters Again, Loses, 7-4, to New York | Behind the hitting of Earl Ferry, the New York Gothams stopped the Atlanta Copperheads, 7-4. Ferry hit 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice for the Gothams. George Libby earned save number 19 this season. The current losing streak for Atlanta has reached 6 games.
Rich Peterson had a big 3-run home run for the Gothams in the bottom of the first inning. With New York leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a cutter from Jack Kotarski, who finished 3rd in the FA in innings pitched with 274.0 in 1972, and punished it. The result was his 6th home run of the season, which put the Gothams on top, 4-0.
"It was a good night for them and a bad night for us," said Atlanta manager Don Fox.
