| Pioneers Fall, 5-3, to Ellefsen, Chiefs | The Chicago Chiefs beat the St. Louis Pioneers, 5-3, at Whitney Park. Andy Ellefsen belted 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. The 25-year old first baseman was a menace to St. Louis all day. Walt Jackson picked up the win with 8 innings of work. He allowed 3 runs on 8 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 7. On the season, he is now 1-3. Ed Rowley nailed down the save.
The Chiefs got an important contribution from center fielder Bob Starr, who in the bottom of the fourth punched a full count curveball to left-center for a 2-run home run. It was his 12th home run of the season and put the Chiefs ahead, 5-3.
"Very pleased with the effort on our side," said Ellefsen.
