Kings Lose at Home, 8-3 | The Kansas City Kings defeated the New York Imperials, 8-3, at Dyckman Stadium. Kansas City was led by 1959 Whitney Award winner Hank Williams, who went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Kansas City reliever Del Lamb was the winner. His record is now 7-4. The losing pitcher was Glenn Webb. The slumping Imperials have lost 10 straight.
Kansas City used the timely hitting of Tom Hicks to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Kings on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"The bar for us is not a particular opponent, it's ourselves," said Kansas City manager Glenn Carney. | |
