| Cantrell Lifts Eagles to 6-5 Triumph | The Washington Eagles beat the New York Gothams, 6-5, at Columbia Stadium. The Eagles got a fine performance from right fielder Joe Cantrell, who was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Don Maguire notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. His record now sits at 6-6. Don Eddy earned the save for Washington, his 2nd.
Cantrell had a big at-bat with runners on 1st and 2nd in the bottom of the fifth inning, when he hit a run-scoring single. The Eagles went on to win.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Cantrell said.
The 5th-place Eagles are now 69-73, the Gothams 80-60. | |
