| Washington Gets Riveting Walk-Off Win | Philadelphia third baseman Leon Stapleton had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 6-5, to Washington at Columbia Stadium. Stapleton went 4 for 8 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. The 5th-place Eagles go to 67-72.
Up to bat in the bottom of the 16th, Don Whited wanted to seize the moment and deliver a clutch hit. Philadelphia pitcher Jack Peck had other ideas. He wanted to end the Washington rally. What happened next? With two outs, Whited drew a walk, driving in 1 run -- and the Eagles erupted in celebration.
"What a buzz," said Whited after it was over. | |
