Close Win Moves Chiefs to 74-63 | Chicago starter John Thomas put the Washington offense in a vise grip. The right-hander relied heavily on his fastball in leading the Chiefs to a 2-1 win. Thomas, who is tied for 5th in the FA in complete games with 10, went the distance for Chicago. He gave up 1 run on 8 hits. The third-place Eagles dropped to 84-53.
Thomas had a critical at-bat in the bottom of the seventh for Chicago, coming through with a run-scoring single to put Chicago in front, 2-1.
