| Late Rally by Chiefs Locks Up 6-4 Win | The Chicago Chiefs defeated the New York Gothams, 6-4, in part because of center fielder Bob Starr. Starr was 2-3 with 2 doubles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Chiefs. Chicago reliever Phil Murphy picked up the win, upping his record to 6-2. Harry Hayward absorbed the loss. Hal Alsip got the save, his 17th in 24 chances.
Chicago used a timely hit from Freddie Mitchel to get the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Chiefs ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Starr said.
With the win, the Chiefs sit at 70-66. | |
