Big Day for Richards as Copperheads Down Pioneers, 10-7
The Atlanta Copperheads got a rain-soaked win over the St. Louis Pioneers.

Behind the hitting of Gus Richards, the Atlanta Copperheads stopped the St. Louis Pioneers, 10-7. Richards went 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 3 for the Copperheads. Howie Burt earned the win, while 26-year old left-handed pitcher Jack Cornwell took the loss for St. Louis.

The Copperheads got a big hit from catcher Howard Smith. Facing St. Louis pitcher Jack Cornwell in the top of the seventh, Smith pounded a grand slam home run to right-center. His 10th home run of the season put the Copperheads ahead, 8-0.

"Our guys are never satisfied," said Atlanta manager Don Fox.

The Copperheads improved to a lofty 94-35.
