| Falcons Score Late, Upend Sailors, 4-1 | The Fukuoka Falcons rode a solid performance from 31-year-old starting pitcher Toshiyoshi Sakata to a win, beating the Osaka Sailors, 4-1, at Kotei Stadium. Kijuro Fukushima was credited with the save, his 18th in 26 tries. Fukuoka is now 59-61, Osaka 60-57.
Fukuoka used a timely hit from Akihito Otani to get the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Falcons ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a difference-maker.
"The effort we put into this one paid off," Sakata said.
