| Falcons Prevail, 2-1, Over Vesutan | Benefiting from Yukio Smith's productive game, the Fukuoka Falcons downed the Vesutan Bees, 2-1. Smith was 3-4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Falcons. Sadakazu Minami was the winning pitcher. Over 6.2 innings, he allowed 1 run on 6 hits, with 4 walks and 4 strikeouts. Kijuro Fukushima earned the save, his 24th, for the Falcons.
With Fukuoka trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Smith hit a fastball from Tatsuki Goto for a 2-run home run. It was his 16th home run of the season and put the Falcons ahead, 2-1.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Vesutan skipper Jim Harper, "and it cost us."
Fukuoka now sports a record of 56-57.
