| Bulls Suffer One-Run Loss at Fukuoka | Fukuoka got an elite performance from starting pitcher Isaburo Muraoka in securing a 2-1 decision over the Kobe Bulls. In 8 innings, Muraoka surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 0. He allowed 1 run. Shinpo Yamasaki sewed up the save, his 27th.
Ayato Sugiura had a big run-scoring double for the Falcons in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Fukuoka leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from Roku Yamakawa, who finished 2nd in the WL in ERA with 1.79 in 1966, and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 17th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Falcons ahead, 2-0.
"We played hard and won," said Muraoka. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'
The win for the Falcons lifted their record to 77-54. | |
