| Fukuoka Dispatched, 3-1, by Osaka | The Osaka Sailors topped the Fukuoka Falcons, 3-1, in Western League action at Kotei Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Osaka pitcher and Nagoya, Japan, native Kinnosuke Shimabukuro. With the win over Fukuoka, the Sailors improved to 38-68.
In the bottom of the 6th, center fielder Masahiko Yamamoto gave Osaka the lead when he hit a 2-run single. The Sailors had been trailing 1-0, but the two-out single off Fukuoka pitcher Rei Matsumura changed that -- and Osaka went on to win.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Sailors manager Bill Sherrill, "I like our chances." | |
