| Falcons Zap Bulls, 2-1 | The Fukuoka Falcons beat the Kobe Bulls, 2-1. Fukuoka pitcher and Yokohama, Japan, native Tsuneteru Fujiwara led the way. Shinpo Yamasaki nailed down his 17th save. The second-place Falcons go to 61-39.
Ayato Sugiura dealt the Bulls a blow in the top of the fifth. Batting with runners on 1st and 2nd and Fukuoka leading 1-0, Sugiura, who finished 4th in the WL in hits with 148 in 1971, hit a full count changeup for a run-scoring single.
"There's ebbs and flows in the season and right now we're just looking to finish strong," said Sugiura.
