| Fukuoka Beaten, 9-7, by Kobe | Led by Ryuichi Funakoshi, the Kobe Bulls defeated the Fukuoka Falcons, 9-7. Funakoshi, a native of Kesennuma, Miyagi, went 1 for 1 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Bulls. Norm Evans, now 4-1, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. The first-place Bulls, at 59-41, lead the Western League by 6 games.
In the top of the eighth, the Bulls grabbed the lead when Funakoshi hit his 3rd home run of the season. The grand slam home run off Shinpo Yamasaki made it 9-7, Kobe.
"You start putting runs on the board and winning, everyone's going to get excited," said Funakoshi.
