| Sad Sack Sailors Lose 10th Straight | The Fukuoka Falcons picked up a win at Kotei Stadium, knocking off the Osaka Sailors, 2-1. On the mound for Fukuoka was right-hander Rei Matsumura. He played a key role in the triumph. Matsumura got the win, improving to 8-1. He gave up 9 hits and walked 0 over 8 innings. He allowed 1 run. Osaka is in the throes of a losing streak which has reached 10 games.
Yasuhiko Kawasaki came through with a big-time hit for Fukuoka. The pinch hitter smacked a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 2-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"If it can go wrong, it will go wrong," said Bill Sherrill, the Osaka manager.
