The Osaka Sailors rode a solid performance from 23-year-old starting pitcher Atsuhiro Smith to a win, beating the Vesutan Bees, 5-2, at Fukuoka Stadium. Smith picked up the win for Osaka, going 7 innings. He gave up no runs on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 3-4.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Yoshio Ishikawa? The Osaka first baseman had a run-scoring double in the top of the first inning to put the Sailors on top, 2-0. For the game, Ishikawa had 2 doubles and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"I was able to get good plays made behind me," Smith said. "And I was able to make pitches when I needed to make pitches."
The win elevated the Sailors to 22-18.
