| Bees Lose, 4-3, in 11 | Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the Nagasaki Stars got the win.
Vesutan got a terrific game from right fielder Hidetsugu Ikegami. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Nagasaki, 4-3. Ikegami went 3 for 6 with a home run and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Tetsushi Kondo snagged the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits over 4 innings. He's now 6-5 on the season.
The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Binya Nishi came to bat in the top of the 11th. Facing Vesutan pitcher Toshimichi Yamamoto, he hit a 0-1 sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Nagasaki on top, 4-3.
Said Nishi: "It's just one win, but it feels like more when you outlast a tough opponent."
The 5th-place Bees dropped to 33-42. | |
