| Falcons Clip Sailors, 3-2 | The Fukuoka Falcons got their 1974 season off and running with a win over the Osaka Sailors at Fukuoka Stadium. The final score was 3-2. Fukuoka pitcher Rei Matsumura, in particular, had a fine performance.
The defining moment came in the bottom of the ninth for Fukuoka. That's when Toshifumi Shibuya hit a 2-run home run off four-time All-Star Haruki Ogawa to win the game. The home crowd went wild.
"The effort we put into this one paid off," Shibuya said.
