The umbrellas came out during the Sapporo-Yokohama contest at Kanagawa Stadium.

The Sapporo Bears met little resistance from the Yokohama Kingfishers, beating them, 11-2, at Kanagawa Stadium. Kenichi Hotta led the way. He was 3 for 5 with a home run and a double. He scored 3 runs and drove in 5 for Sapporo. Naruki Shimada was the winner. He's now 12-15. The loser was 33-year old left-handed pitcher Bill Sauerwein.

With Sapporo leading 2-0 in the top of the third, Hotta hit a fastball from Bill Sauerwein for a 3-run home run. It was his 19th home run of the season and put the Bears ahead, 5-0.

"I put some good swings on the ball," said Hotta.

The Bears saw their win-loss record go to 57-79. At the same time, the Kingfishers fell to 48-88.
