| Owls Collect 5-4 Win Over Reliables | Hosho right fielder Toshimasa Ikeda had a good game, even if his team did not. The Reliables dropped a 5-4 decision to Kyoto at Nagoya Minami Stadium. Ikeda went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs. Kenshin Kon, who led the EL in saves with 23 last year, picked up the win in relief. Motomu Taira took the loss for Hosho. Picking up the save was Hisaaki Sakamoto, his 3rd.
Kyoto used the timely hitting of Bungo Arai to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Owls on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Took some scratching and clawing," said Arai. "But we got it done."
With the victory, the Owls record stands at 75-62. | |
