| Kingfishers Get Clutch Win Versus Sapporo | The Sapporo Bears got a sterling performance from pitcher Seikichi Nagamatsu, but the Yokohama Kingfishers still prevailed, 3-2. Nagamatsu threw 7.0 innings of 2-hit ball. Hirotsugu Sasaki, 8-8, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 3 hits in 3 innings. The 5th-place Kingfishers go to 60-66.
Yokohama used the timely hitting of Fujimaro Sonoda to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Kingfishers on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Nice win for us," said Sonoda. "Now we'll go after the next one."
