| Bears Slap 2-0 Loss on Rakisuta | The Sapporo Bears downed the Rakisuta Rams, 2-0, at Sapporo Stadium. Stellar pitching by Naruki Shimada had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who is tied for 9th in the EL in wins with 11, handcuffed his opponent all game. The winner was Shimada. He threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Ryuta Kai. Shinichi Kanehara earned his 23rd save in 25 chances.
The Bears had to work out of trouble in the top of the ninth. The score was 2-0, Sapporo, with one out. Rakisuta, with a runner on 3rd, was mounting a threat. Ryunosuke Onishi dug in at the plate, but on a 1-1 changeup, he flied out.
Sapporo is now 55-77, Rakisuta 63-69.
