| Shimada Excels, But Kingfishers Win | Dedicated fans weathered the storm to watch their beloved Kingfishers beat the Owls.
The Kyoto Owls got a sterling performance from third baseman Tomonori Shimada, but the Yokohama Kingfishers still prevailed, 8-4. Shimada hit 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Kinzo Yoshimura got credit for the win, improving to 15-3. He allowed 4 runs on 9 hits in 7 innings. Toshinori Osada earned his 21st save in 33 chances.
In the bottom of the first inning, third baseman Fujimaro Sonoda had a grand slam home run for Yokohama. It was his 11th home run of the season and put the Kingfishers on top, 4-0.
"We didn't pitch good, and when you don't pitch good, you lose," said Kyoto manager Takejiro Yonemura.
The Eastern League-leading Kingfishers are 72-40.
