| Slumping Kingfishers Lose 9th Straight | Starting pitcher Shigeyoshi Taira gave the Rakisuta Rams a rock-solid effort. The Okinawa, Japan native helped his team defeat the Yokohama Kingfishers, 1-0, at Rakisuta Stadium. Yokohama is in the throes of a losing streak which has reached 9 games.
The Rams got a clutch hit from pinch hitter Shigenobu Nakayama. In the bottom of the ninth, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Rams.
"If it can go wrong, it will go wrong," said Johnny Ruby, the Yokohama manager.
