The Sapporo Bears defeated the Denki Dynamics, 1-0, in Eastern League action at Kanda Stadium. Sapporo pitcher Masaru Ryu had a standout performance. Sapporo reliever Eisaku Yamaoka picked up the win, upping his record to 7-8. Tatsunori Tanoue was saddled with the loss.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Nobuyori Toyama? The 22-year old center fielder Toyama stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put Sapporo up, 1-0. For the game, he was 2 for 3, including 1 double and 1 single.
Ryu said afterward that he was glad to contribute to the win.
The Bears now have a record of 51-73 with the win over Denki.
