| Bears Win at Kyoto, 7-2 | Fans were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown Kyoto Owls take on the Sapporo Bears.
The exploits of third baseman Kohsuke Takayama, who finished 3rd in the EL in doubles with 32 in 1959, helped the Sapporo Bears defeat the Kyoto Owls, 7-2. Takayama was 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 times. The third-place Owls have dropped 4 straight games.
The Bears got a big at-bat from right fielder Ukyo Ota. For the game, Ota was 2-5 with 2 home runs. In the top of the first, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 16th home run of the season gave Sapporo a 1-0 lead.
