| Bears Beat Reliables, 3-2 | The Sapporo Bears reigned over the Hosho Reliables in damp conditions.
The Bears grabbed a win, 3-2, at Nagoya Minami Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from Hosho pitcher Shihei Saito. Saito went 8.1 innings and allowed 3 runs. Chiko Abe picked up the win with 7 innings of work. He allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, while walking 4 and striking out 3. On the season, he is now 7-9. Eisaku Yamaoka picked up his 17th save of the season.
Sukeyasu Arakawa had a big 2-run home run for the Bears in the top of the second inning. With Sapporo trailing 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a fastball from Shihei Saito, who is tied for 4th in the EL in wins with 11, and punished it. The result was his 8th home run of the season, which put the Bears on top, 2-1.
"Tough loss," said Hosho manager Shun Kawamura. "But we'll rebound from it."
The last-place Bears are 46-70.
